ABOUT

Jonathan Cumberland is an illustrator, designer, and educator based in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where he serves as an Associate Professor of Graphic Design at The University of Alabama.

His work is known for its witty conceptual takes on complex stories and narratives. Cumberland has produced illustrations for national entities, which include Scholastic, Sallie Mae, Oxford University Press, Johns Hopkins Magazine, Women’s Wear Daily, Yankee Magazine, Commercial Observer, and The University of Alabama among others.

In addition to his illustration practice, Cumberland is an active poster designer. His work has been exhibited in numerous international exhibitions and has garnered recognition from Graphis, AIGA, Scholastic, Creative Quarterly, AAF, and American Illustration.

He also enjoys making screenprints, playing vintage 8-bit video games, and smoking meats.
